Lac Du Bonnet

We’re here.

Back to the place that brings us all a lot of peace.  Part of Manitoba that is filled with spots that have never been seen from above.

As usual, Falco and I were the first ones out here.  Same ritual.  Small Chinese food restaurant called Xu’s for lunch, and then out to Heather Fish and Gavlcsnap-2014-07-18-09h13m10s223me.

First rights to the site grant first rights to the spots for our tents.

Now men are strange.  They will each bring a tent that will sleep a small country.  For themselves.  If they bring a friend.  They bring another tent.

Of course I have the same one I had 10 years ago, onvlcsnap-2014-07-18-09h14m28s230e that used to sleep my whole family. I have a cot lent to me by a friend that has better back support than my bed.  Of course you need power to your tent to charge up all the devices we bring.

Falco and I got set-up, and our new additions this year are two 13 x 13 screen tents.  One of them set-up in the middle of our communal tent.  Well we needed a camping “couch” and “coffee table” and by the afternoon we were flying from inside the tent, out of the bugs.

Wind was up but that didn’t matter to the Phantoms.  Both were put high up to get a lay of the land.

As I write this, IMG_20140718_093329bodies are still rolling out of bed and the smell of bacon is in the air.
Soon we will have the sounds of electric motors above, and a variety of planes, and multi rotors, will be tested to their limits.

It doesn’t get much better.  Friends, great weather, and tons of cool electronic things.  More guys are rolling in today, so look for updates as funny things start happening.

  1. Sorry for the late post but just wanted to say what a great time that weekend was. Plenty of room to set up our tents, a nice cottage to hang out and fly the nano in and a great field for flying and performing. Seeing the quads go up at night with their LED lights blazing was both elegant and impressive. It was great to get to hang out with and get to know everyone who came out and getting to hear about some of their experiences flying.

A big thank you to Radio for letting me use his DX8 controller to get to fly the nano for the first time. I had a blast running through all the charged batteries once inside the cottage, and once outside. Thanks to everyone for the flying tips and for not getting frustrated me while I am learning.

It looks like I might not be able to make it out for this next weekend which is definitely my loss. If you have been thinking about going out, do it, you won’t regret it.
